Apple Flower Tart

Super easy and such a pretty tart. Mine was a little darker than it should of been. That's what happens when you have a little one sick at home. That's okay - it was still good.

3 Granny Smith Apples
1 pie crust
1/2 of 7 oz - box marzipan paste
2 Tbsp brown sugar
3 sugar
1/2 tsp orange zest
2 Tbsp of butter, cut into very thin slices
orange marmalade (jam)
Toss apples with -brown sugar
                       -white sugar
                        -cinnamon

First thaw your pie shell and place it into a 9" pie pan. Tuck the edges of crust so they lay flat. In food processor, mix cinnamon, brown sugar, white sugar, marzipan and zest. Pulse to break up and combine. Pour this mixture into prepared crust - set aside. Now wash, peel, and core apples. Cut in half and then into 1/8" thick slices. Mix some brown sugar, cinnamon and regular sugar together, now toss apples in the mix. Starting at edges of pie, arrange apple slices in a circle.
Just go around and around, tucking them in as needed. Don't worry if it looks crowded they will cook down, so tuck them all in - like a flower. Top apples with your thin butter slices and bake in a 425º oven for about 25 minutes, some of the edges will turn golden just make sure to keep an eye on them so they don't burn. Heat up your orange jam and gently brush it over the entire tart. Let it cool at least 10 minutes before cutting. I sprinkled a little bit of powdered sugar on it to pretty it up but it really doesn't need any.

Enjoy!

I have never used marzipan. What does that do for the dessert? Thicken? This is interesting to me! I don't often bake with fruit but would like to start once the fruit begins showing up at the markets. Either way, it looks delicious and the presentation is wonderful. I'm glad I found you on Foodie Friday!
