I've seen these bars done so many different ways and really liked the different ways you could change it up by changing cake flavors and cookies. Lots of possibilities. It spoke to me :)
This is my take on the popular bar.
1 bx white cake mix
1/2 c butter, softened
1 tsp vanilla
1 whole egg
1 c cookie chunks (I used coconut macaroons)
2 1/2 c shredded coconut
fudge ice cream topping
1 can (14oz) sweetened condensed milk
candy for garnish
Preheat oven to 350º. Grease a foiled lined baking pan.
In a large mixing bowl, beat the cake mix, butter, vanilla and egg until a soft dough forms. Stir in cookie chunks by hand. Press the dough into your prepared 9x13" baking pan. Drop small dollops of fudge topping over dough.
Combine coconut and condensed milk (I added 2 drops of food coloring for a little color) in a bowl. Spread evenly on top of cake dough. Bake for 28-30 minutes at 350º . Cool in pan for about 15 minutes then using edges of foil, pull out and cool completely on wire rack. Top with candy and cut into bars - dig in :)
